Wisconsin Farm Bureau's PAC Backs Walker for Governor
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/26/2014

The Volunteers For Agriculture Committee, which is the political action arm of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, has endorsed Scott Walker for a second term as governor in the upcoming general election.

The group says their endorsement comes as a result of the Republican Walker signing a number of Farm Bureau-supported bills into law, including the two-year state budget that did not raise fees or increase taxes, extension of the dairy and livestock investment tax credit, and a variety of transportation bills that make it more feasible to haul ag products, manure and sealed containers for international trade.

"The Walker Administration has been a strong advocate for agriculture," said Annette Trescher, a Monroe County dairy farmer who chairs the VFA. "Governor Walker has publicly expressed support for use value assessment of farmland, state livestock siting standards and the right to farm law. He also has overseen great gains in agricultural exports, which grows our state's economy."

During his first term, Governor Walker named former WFBF President Bill Bruins to the state natural resources board, and Farm Bureau members Pam Garvey and Miranda Leis to the state agriculture board. Former Farm Bureau employee Jeff Lyon was also selected by State Ag Secretary Ben Brancel to be his deputy secretary.

Walker is being challenged by former Trek Bicycle executive Mary Burke on November 4.
