Class III Milk Price Announced at $17.73

The August Class III milk price was released at $17.73 per hundredweight this week. That's up $1.05 from the month before, but $3.94 below year-ago levels.
This is the highest base price since December 2011. For the entire year, the 2012 Class III price now averages $16.23, down from $18.18 at this time a year ago.
The Class IV price was also up by $1.31 from last month at $15.76, but was $4.38 lower than last year's price for August.
Meanwhile, the USDA reports that the CME Group cash trading ended the week with barrels averaging $1.80 down $.02 from last week and blocks closed the week with an average price of $1.84, down $.02 from last week.
