Webinar to Focus on Childhood Safety on the Farm
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/14/2017

A free webinar exploring childhood farm hazards has been scheduled for September 20. The online program is being hosted by AgriSafe Network as part of its National Farm Safety and Health Week series.

Organizers say agriculture is among the most hazardous industries of the country.

Participants will learn how to identify the benefits and challenges of youth on farms. They will also explore available resources and tools needed keep youth safe on farms, and understand key financial planning steps of transitioning a farm operation.

"Too many injuries and deaths are associated with youth performing agricultural work that does not match their development level/abilities," said Presenter Marsha Salzwedel, a youth agricultural safety specialist with the National Children's Center at the Marshfield Clinic. "These guidelines help parents and supervisors determine if a youth is able to safely perform various farm tasks."

The webinar will focus on the National Farm Safety and Health Week theme of 'Putting Farm Safety into Practice,' and features the newly released Agricultural Youth Work Guidelines.
