Foxconn, Ginseng Growers Ink Marketing Deal
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/19/2018

Foxconn has entered into a strategic agreement that aims to grow the state's ginseng industry by purchasing and marketing Wisconsin-grown ginseng products. On Tuesday, the Taiwan-based technology company signed a deal with the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin and Hsu's Ginseng, the largest supplier of American ginseng in the United States, to jointly support growers and develop the crop's market share.

Specifically, the agreement will create innovative ways to grow ginseng, marketing it as a health supplement and creating an opportunity for the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the UW Carbone Cancer Center to engage in research surrounding the health benefits of the plant.

Governor Scott Walker was on hand for the signing ceremony. He says ginseng is a key part of the state's history and growing economy.

"Because of this investment we will continue to see the growth of Wisconsin ginseng around the world," Walker said.

As part of Foxconn's plans to contribute to the advancements in healthcare and biotechnology, the company will utilize the global resources and technology expertise of its Health Technology Business Group to support scientific inspection and certification of American ginseng through its Hong Seng brand.

Wisconsin ginseng accounts for 90 to 95 percent of all American produced ginseng with Marathon County serving as the top ginseng producer in the state.
