Whispering Pines to Present Capitol Christmas Tree

Dave and Mary Vander Velden from Oconto will once again represent the Wisconsin Christmas Tree Producers Association in December by presenting a Balsam Fir tree to Governor Scott Walker for the State Capitol conference room.
The couple, who own Whispering Pines, received the honor by winning the 2014 Christmas Tree Grand Champion Ribbon during the WCTPA's annual meeting this year. They also submitted the second best entry with a Fraser Fir tree from their farm.
Next year, they will also have the opportunity to compete in the 2015 National Christmas Tree Contest. The winners of that event will have the privilege of supplying a tree to the U.S. Capitol.
The experience is nothing new for the Vander Veldens. They have won the same competition in 2010 and 2012.
The Vander Veldens have been growing trees for nearly 30 years. They currently grow several species on approximately 150 acres.
