Man Charged with Neglect After Dead Cows Discovered on Farm
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/17/2014

A 47-year-old Rice Lake man has been taken into custody after more than two dozen dead cows were found on his farm over the weekend. The Barron County Sheriff's Department searched the property of John Nelson after being tipped off about the farm's conditions last week. That's where they discovered 25 dead animals, which deputies claim have been deceased for some time.

Nelsen was arrested Saturday for mistreating animals and failing to provide food and water.

Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said many of the cows were found tied up in the barn or inside a holding shed. Investigators will now study the remains of the cattle to determine how or when they died.

Nelson was booked into the county jail and released. He is expected to be back in court in October.
