Also on Saturday, the A.C. 'Whitie' Thomson Memorial Award was awarded to Mike Holschbach of Heatherstone Enterprises in Baraboo. The award honors a herdsman or showman who exhibits exemplary leadership and sportsmanship throughout the show. Holschbach has spent his life involved in the Holstein industry. Growing up on an internationally recognized farm, where his father was the herd manager, Holschbach had the opportunity to work with some of the finest Holsteins in the breed.

Meanwhile, Gov. Scott Walker made an appearance at the event on Friday, where he talked about the new trade agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada.

"The recent trade deal is a big win for Wisconsin's dairy farmers," Walker noted. "This new deal will open up Canadian markets for our dairy farmers, eliminate certain tariffs, and eliminate Canada's protectionist trade policies related to ultra-filtered milk that targeted Wisconsin dairy producers."

Next year's World Dairy Expo will be held October 1-5, 2019 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
