Clark & Wood Counties Added to Drought Disaster Declaration
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 09/28/2012
Another two Wisconsin counties have been added to the list of primary natural disaster areas due to damage and losses caused by this summer's drought. The USDA announced this week that Clark and Wood Counties in central Wisconsin are now part of the declaration.
U.S. Agricultural Secretary Tom Vilsack says actual loss loans for producer losses will be based on the disaster year production compared to the previous three year production history. The actual loss loans for physical damages to property destroyed or damaged will be based upon the allowable cost associated
with repairing or replacing the property destroyed or damaged. In addition, the damaged or destroyed property must be essential to the continuation of the operation.
"Our hearts go out to those Wisconsin farmers and ranchers affected by the recent natural disasters," Vilsack said. "We're telling Wisconsin producers that USDA stands with you and your communities when severe weather and natural disasters threaten to disrupt your livelihood."
Last week, the USDA included Juneau, Monroe, Vernon and Waushara counties to the list. Other areas that qualify because of previous declarations or because they are contiguous are: Adams, Columbia, Crawford, Green Lake, Eau Claire, Jackson, La Crosse, Marathon, Marquette, Portage, Richland, Sauk,
Taylor and Waupaca Counties.
Interest rates for actual loss loans that do not exceed $500,000 will be 2.125 percent. The deadline to file for a disaster loan is March 13, 2013.
