Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/04/2012
It's starting to look more like 2011 in the world of dairy pricing. On Wednesday, the USDA announced that the September Class III milk price was released at $19.00 per hundredweight. That's up $1.84 from the month before, and only seven-cents below year-ago levels.
This is the highest base price since December 2011. For the entire year, the 2012 Class III price now averages $16.42, down from $18.28 at this time a year ago.
The Class IV price was also up by $1.65 from last month at $17.41, but was $2.12 lower than last year's price for September.
Earlier this week, the agency announced that the expected U.S. milk price for September would be around $19.10 per cwt., an increase of $1.00 over last month. Wisconsin's price was predicted at $20.30 per cwt., which is about $1.10 more than August's price, but 90 cents lower than September 2011.
