CWC & Harmony Co-ops to Merge; Riesterer & Schnell to Buy Deere Store
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/14/2014

Another pair of agricultural cooperatives are looking to join forces. The boards of directors for the Stratford-based Central Wisconsin Cooperative and Harmony Country Cooperative, headquartered in Colby, have approved a plan of action to merge their companies together. CWC will also be selling the rights to its John Deere dealership to Riesterer & Schnell Inc., which currently owns 12 other locations in the state.

In a letter to its members, the two co-ops said they believe the move will create unmatched value for its customers through improved savings, expanded services and continued equity payouts.

"We want to emphasize that this will be a merger of very healthy cooperatives," the letter said. "Both companies have solid balance sheets and consistently strong earnings performances which, when combined, will provide significant opportunities in the marketplace to benefit our member-owners."

CWC Board Chairman Joe Fuchs told Wisconsin Ag Connection that no staff reductions are being planned by either company as part of the move. And the name of the new venture has not been determined yet.

Meanwhile, members of both cooperatives are being invited to an informational meeting November 11 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Marshfield at 1:00 p.m. They will also have the opportunity to vote on the merger through the mail next month.

If approved, the companies will be officially merged in March of next year.
