Cooperative Network Honors Rep. Nerison with 'Friend Award'
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/14/2014

The chairman of the Assembly Agriculture Committee has been named the 2014 Friend of Cooperatives Award during the Wisconsin Statewide Telephone Cooperative Association's fall conference in La Crosse this week. Rep. Lee Nerison was given the honor by Cooperative Network for his effective legislative advocacy and leadership on issues important to Wisconsin cooperatives and rural residents.

"From protecting rural land ownership from foreign interests to paving the way for rural broadband, Rep. Nerison understands the importance of successful rural economies," said CN President Bill Oemichen. "During the 2013–14 session, he authored a variety of legislation that became law that will deliver value to our cooperatives, farms, and rural communities."

Oemichen says the Westby Republican also worked to increased the cap on combined areas in agricultural enterprise to protect working lands and created liability protection and civil liability immunity for certain agricultural tourism activities and providers.

"I am humbled and honored to receive this recognition from Cooperative Network," Nerison said. "I look forward to working together in the coming legislative session to promote the interests of cooperatives so they may continue to play a very vital role in our communities."

October is National Cooperative Month.
