Fire Damage at Rosendale Dairy Tops $1 Million
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/19/2012
A fire that destroyed a feed storage building at the state's largest dairy farm earlier this week has caused more than a million dollars in damages. The blaze was reported on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosendale Dairy in Fond du Lac County.
According to Bill Harke of Milk Source, which owns the 8,400-cow dairy operation, a tractor inside the shed caught on fire and spread into some feed.
The structure was used for housing bales of hay and straw, as well as thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
Meanwhile, Harke said the farm's day-to-day operations have not been interrupted as Milk Source has been using one of its other farms to supply feed to the cows. Employees have also been busy hauling truckloads of debris and damaged hay away from the site.
No people or farm animals were injured as a result of this week's fire, but two workers have been treated for minor smoke inhalation.
The farm plans to rebuild the structure before the end of the year.
