Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/24/2016

An official with the National Pork Board will be on hand during the upcoming Badger Swine Symposium to talk about the Veterinary Feed Directive, which places new regulations on antibiotics use in farm animals next year.

Dave Pyburn, DVM, serves as the NPB's vice president of science and technology. He will be discussing the VFD and answering producers' questions at the symposium, being held at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneer Farm on November 4.

The UW-Extension Swine Team and Wisconsin Pork Association is inviting all pork producers and industry to attend the event. In addition to the VFD, other topics on the agenda include common swine industry audits and PQA site assessments, attributes of niche pork production, effects of probiotics and small grains in pig diets, preparing trailers for pigs, and how to find a swine veterinarian for your farm.

The Badger Swine Symposium is free to attend with sponsorship from the animal sciences departments at UW-Madison, Platteville, and River Falls; UW-Extension Swine Team; Wisconsin Pork Association, and the Pork Checkoff.
