UW-Madison to Hold Dairy Science Showcase in November
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 10/24/2014

The University of Wisconsin-Madison's Department of Dairy Science invites department alumni and stakeholders to its second annual Dairy Science Showcase. It's being held November 6 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Dejope Hall on campus.

The event will highlight the department's research, extension and instructional efforts. The program kicks off with a State of CALS and UW Dairy Science presentation, after which faculty members and graduate students will talk about current research initiatives. Participants also will have the opportunity to visit with master's and doctoral students during a research poster session and help honor undergraduate scholarship recipients during a brief awards ceremony.

The main event will be a presentation of findings from a $1 million USDA project titled An Integrated Approach to Improving Dairy Cow Fertility. Several UW dairy scientists are collaborating on this effort to assess how various management factors contribute to dairy cow fertility. The researchers are also evaluating the economic impact of reproductive management strategies on overall farm sustainability under a variety of management scenarios.

To register for the Dairy Science Showcase, go online to dysci.wisc.edu/showcase/. The event is free and will include a complementary lunch and an ice cream social. Parking passes can be purchased during online registration.
