Assembly Honors Life of Former Dep. Ag Secretary Joe Tregoning
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/14/2019

State lawmakers took time from their busy floor session on Wednesday to honor the life and service of former State Representative and Wisconsin Deputy Agriculture Secretary Joe Tregoning. Rep. Todd Novak of Dodgeville authored a joint resolution that commemorates the former Representative for the 51st Assembly District. Tregoning died on October 10 at the age of 78.

"Joe was a visionary and tireless advocate for Southwest Wisconsin," said Novak during his address to colleagues. "If you have agriculture in your district, I assure you Joe had an effect on your area."

A resident of Shullsburg, Joe was first elected to the Assembly in April 1967. After 20 years in the legislature, he was appointment to serve as deputy secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection by then-Gov. Tommy Thompson.

Even after retirement, Novak says Tregoning continued to be a strong advocate for his community and Southwest Wisconsin through his work with many ag-focused businesses.
