Ribble Will Not Seek Re-Election to Congress

Saying he has accomplished all that he set out to do, Congressman Reid Ribble announced over the weekend that he will not seek a fourth term as Wisconsin's 8th district representative. The Appleton Republican said his main objectives upon being elected in 2010 were making the [George W.] Bush tax cuts permanent and holding back federal spending on programs.

"I feel very fortunate to have a strong marriage, grown children, and three wonderful grandchildren," Ribble said in a statement. "I want to dedicate more time to them. Additionally, I've always said elected office shouldn't be a career. I come from the private sector and am anxious to return to it and to a more private life."

Ribble served on the House Agriculture Committee during his first two terms. He beat out Incumbent Rep. Steve Kagen, who had also been serving on the committee during his two terms in office.

Before entering politics, Ribble owned and operated a roof construction and consulting company. He also served as president of the Roofing Industry Alliance for Progress, the roofing industry's national foundation.

He told supporters on Saturday that he was deeply impressed by the thousands of hardworking people he met during his time in Washington and will spend his final 11 months in office working for his constituents in eastern Wisconsin.
