Walker: We're Not Dropping 'America's Dairyland' From Plates
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/16/2017

It doesn't appear that Governor Scott Walker is too keen on the idea of dropping the slogan 'America's Dairyland' from Wisconsin license plates. In an interview this week with the Wisconsin Farm Report in Madison, the governor stressed that the plates currently in circulation already represent a cross section of what Wisconsin is all about--ranging from farming and agriculture, to tourism and the beauty of the north woods.

"There's no way we're changing America's Dairyland from our plates," Walker told Farm Broadcaster Pam Jahnke. "We're proud to be a great attraction for manufacturers. The two are not really inconsistent, in fact a good part of our emerging food processing business is a combination of both agriculture and manufacturing."

Walker went on to say that the state's bread and butter is 'literally and figuratively still agriculture and manufacturing together.'

Rep. Scott Allen of Waukesha recently proposed developing a contest for state high school students to create a new slogan and design after an official with the Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce mentioned the idea of changing the plates to something more contemporary.

As part of Allen's idea, the governor would evaluate the submitted proposals and choose the one he likes the best. But as long as Walker remains in office, he doesn't plan to implement any changes.

The term 'America's Dairyland' has been on the plate since 1940.
