Wisconsin Senators Split Votes on Keystone Pipeline Bill
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/19/2014

Members of the U.S. Senate have failed by one vote to approve a bill that would have allowed for the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline project. And as expected, Wisconsin's two U.S. Senators were split in their voting over the measure.

GOP Sen. Ron Johnson voted in favor of the bill on Tuesday, which passed in the House of Representatives a week earlier. Democratic Tammy Baldwin voted against it.

Johnson said he was disappointed the legislation failed by a 59-41 margin. He feels the Canada-to-Texas pipeline would create jobs for Americans.

Baldwin expressed concerns about the precedent it would set to ask Congress to approve individual pipelines.

Republicans already vowed to bring the bill up for another vote in the next session when they gain control of both chambers of Congress.
