Final Crop Report: 2016 Bountiful Harvest Now Complete
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 11/29/2016

Farmers across the Badger State had another nice week to wrap up their fall harvest and tillage activity before the weekend showers arrived. The Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service issued its final crop/weather summary of the year on Monday. The report noted that temperatures warmed back up, leaving fields thawed and muddy in areas. Fall fieldwork was winding down with combining, manure spreading and tillage work mostly complete.

Topsoil moisture supplies were rated three percent short, 81 percent adequate and 16 percent surplus.

As of Sunday, about 96 percent of the state's corn for grain had been harvested, which is slightly ahead of last year. The average moisture of corn harvested for grain this week was 17 percent, unchanged from last week.

Ninety-nine percent of winter wheat had emerged, which reporters say is looking mostly good to excellent.

Fall tillage was also 86 percent complete for the year.

The agency will issue a final year in review crop report in early December.
