October Milk Price Averages $17.70 cwt. in Wisconsin

Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $17.60 per hundredweight for their milk in October. The USDA's Agricultural Prices report noted that this was 30 cents lower than last month and $8.50 lower than last October's price.

The U.S. milk price for October was $17.70 per cwt., 10 cents higher than Wisconsin's price and 20 cents higher than the September U.S. price. Four of the 23 major milk producing states had a decrease in price from September to October, 17 had an increase, and two had no change in price.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.56 per pound on November 30, while barrels were $1.54 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.90 per pound.

For the week ending November 21, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.66 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.61 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $2.88 per pound.
