Walker Signs Bipartisan Veteran Farm Program
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 12/11/2017

Governor Scott Walker has signed the so-called 'Wisconsin Veterans Farm Bill of 2017' bill into law. The measure creates a program to recruit military veterans into farming, while authorizing the creation of a logotype for veteran farmer products.

Senator Patrick Testin of Stevens Point and Rep. Evan Goyke from Milwaukee introduced the bipartisan policy earlier this year. They say the concept has a number of potential benefits, such as bolstering the agricultural workforce and providing a way to help veterans transition back to civilian life.

"Since day one, we've made the point that this legislation is pro-veteran, pro-agriculture, and pro-workforce," Goyke said. "It makes investments in the future of Wisconsin's agricultural economy, and the futures of our veterans. The legislation will accomplish changes in State law to benefit current and future veteran farmers--both rural and urban."

Rep. Ed Brooks, who served in the U.S. Army Reserve and worked for decades as a dairy farmer, believes that the bill will help solidify the future of Wisconsin agriculture. He co-sponsored the bill along with Sen. Janis Ringhand from Evansville.
