Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/08/2018

A team of Columbia County students have topped the 2018 statewide 4-H Quiz Bowl contest held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus last weekend.

Participants were asked about beef, sheep, swine and meat goat topics and students use a buzzer in order to answer the questions. The winning senior team members will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Quiz and Skillathon Contest in Omaha, Nebraska later this year.

Winning team members were Zach Mickelson, Justin Taylor, Hayden Taylor and Tyler Cross. They were coached by Todd Taylor. The runner-up in the senior division was from Iowa County.

This year's Junior Quiz Bowl winning team was from Sheboygan County, with Brayden Peter, Ethan Kohlman, Cora Kohlman and Alison Gartman taking first place. Liz Gartman and Michelle Klemme coached the group.

In the Skillathon contest, participants completed a written test, skill-a-thon stations and numerous live animal team exercises. The winning team was from Marathon County and will represent Wisconsin at the National 4-H Quiz and Skillathon Contest in Louisville, KY in November. Coached by Mark Zimmerman, members of that team included Stephanie Witberler, Kailen Smerchek, Cortney Zimmerman and Emilie Pauls. Columbia County placed second in that competition.
