Pierce County to Hold Spring Dairy Modernization Tour
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/15/2012
The University of Wisconsin-Extension Office in Pierce County is holding two farm modernization tours next month.
Both of the tours will be held on April 4. The first visit will take place at Rohl Dairy at 10:30 a.m. Owned by Mike and Amanda Rohl, the facility will show off its new low cost parlor, holding area, maternity pens and cattle handling facility. The farm suffered a catastrophic dairy barn fire last fall, so they decided to modernize in the process of rebuilding its facilities.
The second tour will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Steve and Mary Brand Dairy Heifer Facility. That operation has been evaluating different dairy modernization needs in recent years. The Brands were the second dairy to invest in automated calf feeding equipment in Pierce County. Last October, they moved in to their 250 head capacity multi-age heifer facility to a new location just east of Ellsworth.
