Wisconsin Farmers Impacted by Michigan Disaster Declaration
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 03/30/2015
Farmers in Florence, Forest, Marinette and Vilas counties in Wisconsin may qualify for natural disaster assistance because they are contiguous to some of the Michigan areas under a recent disaster designation. The USDA has designated 31 counties in Michigan in two separate disaster designations as primary
natural disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by multiple disasters that occurred during the 2014 crop year.
Twenty-four of the Michigan counties suffered damages and losses caused by the combined effects of excessive rain with cooler than normal temperatures that occurred last April 1.
Some producers in the effected counties now qualify for low interest emergency loans from USDA's Farm Service Agency, provided eligibility requirements are met. Farmers have eight months to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses.
FSA will consider each loan application on its own merits,
taking into account the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.
