Next PDPW Webinar Series Looks at Calf & Heifer Management
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/17/2015

The Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin will begin its next World-Class Webinar Series this month on raising replacing heifers from birth to calving.

Animal care and nutrition experts Dr. Sheila McGuirk, Dr. Noah Litherland and Pat Hoffman will facility the three-part webinar.

The first program, being held April 29, will focus on feed quality, quantity and consistency in the first 60-days of life and how they impact the health, development and future milk production.

On May 20, producers will learn novel feeding and management methods to produce more top calves and better understand why some calves fail to meet expectations.

The final session takes place June 17 on the hidden challenges of dairy heifer nutrition, such as how heifer pregnancy rate has a profound effect on formulating heifer diets. Viewers will also take a bounce around limit feeding strategies, formulating heifer diets for dietary phosphorus and strategies to cut dietary energy to avoid over-conditioning.

All presentations will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The cost to participate in the on-line interactive program for PDPW members is $100 per registered computer. Non-members can join in for $125. There is no limit to the number of people who wish to share one computer for the program.

Interested participants must have a high-speed Internet connection and must pre-register.
