United Co-op Donates to Johnson Creek Greenhouse Project
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/20/2018

A building fund for Johnson Creek High School's agriculture department for a new greenhouse has received a nice boost. The Beaver Dam-based United Cooperative has pledged $5,000 toward the project.

Ag Instructor Kelsey Sambs says construction on the 60x30 facility will begin this spring, and will cost about $52,000 to build and install.

"The greenhouse will allow for multiple outcomes," Sambs said. "We grow vegetables and produce for the school's food service program year around. A lot of our students don't have access to fresh vegetables at home. The greenhouse allows us to work in partnership with the food service director and provide vegetables to the school lunch program."

Meanwhile, the greenhouse will also teach kids how to grow their own food, so they can start a garden or container gardens at home.

United Cooperative offers feed, grain, agronomy and energy products to farmers and consumers at 32 locations around Wisconsin.
