Additional FFA Members Earn Presidential Scholar Honors
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/26/2017

It appears that two other Wisconsin agriculture students are among five high school seniors in the state to be in the running for the U.S. Presidential Scholar in Career and Technical Education award.

On Tuesday, Wisconsin Ag Connection reported that Dylon Pokorny of Waupun High School was selected as a semifinalists for the award this year. We have since learned that Alex Krueger from Janesville Craig and Andrea McDermott of Platteville are also active members of their respective FFA chapters.

"To be named one of the 5 CTE Presidential semifinalist for Wisconsin is an amazing honor," said State FFA Advisor Jeff Hicken. "This award is earned by the student, but is also a reflection of great teachers who are in the background educating and encouraging these young leaders."

Last month, 15 Wisconsin students have been named semifinalists for the program, which is considered the nation's highest honor for graduating high school seniors.

Besides the three FFA members, Kelsie Lyall of Menomonie and Levi Werlein from Appleton are also being considered for the award.

The Commission on Presidential Scholars will soon make the final selection of the nation's top academic Presidential Scholars, which includes one male and one female from each state.
