Reedsville Equity Sets Record Hay Sale in April
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 04/30/2008

The Reedsville market of Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association has announced its recent hay sale set a new record with 92 loads being sold--which is the equivalent of about 400 tons.

Market Manager Greg Cummings says this is by far the biggest hay sale the co-op has ever held.

"The Reedsville Equity location conducts hay sales every Thursday year-round, Cummings said. "The price of hay is favorable, and our service of reloading plays a big part for those coming from distances to purchase hay or straw."

Cummings notes that most of the hay and straw is sold within 30 miles of Reedsville. However, buyers come from as far away as Indiana and lower Michigan.

"In the winter months, this market typically transacts 60-70 loads; in the summer, that amount decreases to 15-20 loads," Cummings said. "Customers realize that if they need to buy or sell hay, Reedsville has it every Thursday at noon."

Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association is a federated cooperative headquartered in Baraboo.
