Milk Prices Continue to go Higher in 2007

Wisconsin farmers should receive an average April price of $17.20 per hundredweight for milk--about 90 cents more than in March, and $4.70 per cwt. above a year ago. The USDA reports that the April U.S. milk price rose 80 cents to $16.40 per cwt., 80 cents below Wisconsin's level.

California continues to have the lowest milk price at $15.20 per cwt., an 88 cent boost from March. Florida and Pennsylvania producers will receive the highest per cwt. prices in the U.S, both over $18.00. Dairy farmers in five other states, besides Wisconsin, will receive $17.10 to $17.40 per cwt in April 2007.

In 2006, Wisconsin farmers received an average milk price of $13.30, down $2.30 from the 2005 average. Total cash receipts from marketings of Wisconsin milk in 2006 totaled $3.08 billion, compared to $3.53 billion in 2005. The total value of milk produced in Wisconsin in 2006 was $3.11 billion. The total value includes the value of milk marketings, milk used for home consumption, and milk fed to calves.
