Class III Milk Price Announced at $16.76

The USDA announced on Friday that the April Class III milk price is $16.76 per hundredweight, down $1.24 from March, 67 cents above April 2007. The average price for the year is now at 17.78, up from $14.73 a year ago. The April Class IV price is $14.56, up 39 cents from March but $1.56 below April 2007.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin farmers should receive an average April price of $18.80 per hundredweight--40 cents lower than in March, but $1.70 per cwt. above a year ago. The April U.S. milk price decreased by 10 cents to $18.00 per cwt., 80 cents below Wisconsin's level.

Milk prices were mixed across the 23 major milk producing states. Nine states had a decline in price from March to April, while 12 states showed an increase. Two states, New York and Pennsylvania, had no change. California is expected to have the lowest milk price at $16.70 per cwt., a 25 cent decline from March. Dairy farmers in sixteen other states, besides Wisconsin, will receive $18.00 or more per cwt. in April 2008.
