Master Cheesemaker Program Announces Newest Graduates

The Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker program has graduated six new and one returning students. The program, which is the nation's only advanced training course of its kind for experienced cheesemakers, now has 65 active Masters in Wisconsin.

The newest Master Cheesemakers include Scott Barker, Cedar Grove Cheese, Inc., Plain; Steve Bierhals, BelGioioso Cheese, Pulaski; Tom Dahmen, Chula Vista Cheese Company, Browntown; Josh Krause, BelGioioso Cheese, Pulaski; Ryan LaGrander, LaGrander's Hillside Dairy, Stanley; and Rob Richter, Great Lakes Cheese, Seymour.

Tom Torkelson, who first went through the program in 2008, is the only returning Master in the class. He added certifications in gouda and cheddar to his resume.

The Wisconsin Master Cheesemaker program is administered by the Wisconsin Center for Dairy Research and funded by Wisconsin dairy producers, through the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board.
