Wisconsin FFA Virtual Convention Rescheduled for July 6-10
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/03/2020

The Wisconsin FFA board of directors has provided an update on its plans to celebrate the year's accomplishments in lieu of an in-person state convention this summer. The agricultural education group announced it will hold an online experience during the week of July 6-10.

State FFA Director Cheryl Zimmerman said the board had originally intended to hold virtual convention sessions in June, followed by a personal gathering during August. But the continuation of COVID-19 led the state officer team and their advisors to reconsider that decision.

"The state officers have not been together in person since early March. They have met many times through video conferencing with the hope they can meet in person once again," Zimmerman explained. "We are hoping that by July 1 the team can come together before the start of the convention online experience."

Zimmerman says the selection of the new state officer team will be made through a nominating committee process, where candidates will be interviewed online and chosen by a panel of judges.

The annual talent competition will also be held virtually, but the convention's band and chorus members will not be able to participate.

Meanwhile, winners of the FFA Star and Proficiency Awards, Agriscience Fair and National Chapter Awards will be announced during the online presentation in July.

The FFA board voted earlier to cancel the remainder of its Leadership Development Events for 2020, which includes judging competitions and speaking contests.
