Former UW-Madison Ag Prof Phil Harris Dies

Funeral services will be held this weekend for Philip Harris, a former agricultural law professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, who passed away last week after a difficult battle with multiple myeloma.

Harris was an Emeritus Professor and former chair of the Agriculture and Applied Economics Department at UW-Madison. He founded and directed Tax Insight, LLC, a company that provides education for tax practitioners.

He was also one of the founders of the Land Grant University Tax Education Foundation, and until 2015, Phil was the lead editor for its annual tax book used by over 30,000 tax practitioners each year.

He grew up on a family farm and graduated from Iowa State University where he was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity. He received both his Masters in Economics and his law degree from the University of Chicago.

A visitation will be held Friday evening at Cress Funeral Home in Madison from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at Luther Memorial Church in Madison on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
