Weltzien Named State FFA President, Denmark is Top Chapter
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/14/2019

The Wisconsin FFA Association has a new president. Collin Weltzien of the Arcadia FFA Chapter was elected during the closing session of the 90th Wisconsin FFA Convention on Thursday to replace out-going leader Amelia Hayden of the Big Foot FFA. Weltzien is a student at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls majoring in Agricultural Business. He hopes to return to his family's dairy farm to become the fourth generation to run the operation. Collin served as a state FFA vice president during the past year.

Other members of the newly elected 2019-20 state officer team include Ryan Erickson, Barron, vice president; Lindsey Augustine, Ellsworth, vice president; Curtis Weltzien, Arcadia, treasurer; Grace Morrissey, Shullsburg, vice president; Emily Sheehan, Parkview, sentinel; Jared Mack, Sauk Prairie, secretary; Daniel Clark, Spencer, vice president; Lydia Williams, Shawano, reporter; Joe Schlies, Denmark, parliamentarian; and Michelle Stangler, Watertown, vice president.

In her retiring address, Hayden encouraged students to have purpose when they set goals and work toward achieving their dreams in life.

"There's a line of growth that stretches from being full of purpose to purposeful. It doesn't matter where you are on the line right now as long as you're moving down it," she said. "Purpose, striving to reach our goals, is never a bad thing. But there are so many better things down the line. Most of us are just in the middle. We sometimes need a reminder to be purposeful."

Meanwhile, two other students were selected to join the state officers as official delegates at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this fall. They are Ben Styer of the Menomonie FFA and Cortney Zimmerman from Spencer.

Also on Thursday, the Denmark FFA was named the state's top chapter. And the Gilman and River Valley chapters took top honors in the traditional and digital scrapbook competitions.

The annual conference was attended by over 3,700 students, family and supporters. All of the events took place at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
