Emerald Ash Borer Found in Juneau County
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/21/2016

Another Wisconsin county has officially confirmed the infestation of the damaging emerald ash borer bug. State agriculture officials say Juneau County is the latest county to discover the insect at a rest area on westbound Interstate 90/94 near Lyndon Station.

The county had already been under quarantine for two years because of EAB's nearby detection.

"This will not change anything from a regulatory standpoint," said Brian Kuhn, Plant Industry Bureau Director with the DATCP.

For private citizens, the quarantine means that they cannot take firewood from Juneau County to non-quarantine counties. It also means that businesses cannot handle wood products that could carry EAB.

EAB has now been found in 38 Wisconsin counties in Wisconsin. Adults borers lay eggs on the bark of ash trees in mid- to late summer and when those eggs hatch, the larvae burrow under the bark for the winter and eat just beneath the bark, destroying the tree's ability to take up nutrients and water.
