Area Agriculture Students Part of Costa Rican Tour
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/22/2016

A group of 50 national FFA award winners from around the nation have just returned from a tour of Costa Rica, where they visited agricultural sites to compare the industry in Central America and the United States.

Trip coordinators say Costa Rica is an ideal agricultural tour site as it includes some of the most diverse agriculture and geography in the world.

Seminar participants were selected from national agricultural proficiency award finalists and American winners named last October at the National FFA Convention.

Wisconsin participants on the tour included Eric Coddington, Montello; Zachary Olson, Arkdale; Lindsey Rettenmund, Black Earth; Stephanie Theil, Plymouth; and Kelly Wilfert, Two Rivers.

Through June 18, participants visited Dole's Costa Rican banana farm, several of the country's large and small production farms, a Starbucks coffee plantation, and rainforests. They also took in plenty of sights during their trip. FFA members toured the Costa Rican capital of San Jose, one of the country's national parks and a host of popular tourist destinations.
