Emerald Ash Borer Now Confirmed in Waukesha County
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 06/22/2012

The tree-eating Emerald Ash Borer beetle has been confirmed in yet another Wisconsin location. On Tuesday, a tree sample in the Village of Mukwonago at the intersection of State Highway 83 and County Highway NN was tested after an arborist found a possible infestation.

The specimen was sent to federal identifiers that day and subsequently confirmed as EAB, according to state agriculture officials.

The EAB has now been discovered in 11 Wisconsin counties, include Brown, Crawford, Kenosha, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Vernon, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha. Another 12 counties have been quarantined, which means that hardwood firewood, regardless of tree species, cannot leave the quarantine area.

With the latest confirmation in Waukesha County, residents of the area are encouraged to contact a certified arborist or other tree care professional for help in determining if their ash tree is at risk and a course of action to undertake if warranted.
