State Milk Price Remains Steady During May

Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $17.70 per hundredweight for their milk in May. The USDA's Agricultural Prices report noted that the price was unchanged from April.

The U.S. milk price for May was $16.70 per cwt, $1.00 lower than Wisconsin's price, but 20 cents higher than the March U.S. price. Sixteen of the 23 major milk producing states had an increase in price from April to May. Only three had a price decrease, and four were unchanged.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.62 per pound on June 29, while barrels were $1.60 per pound. The CME butter price was $1.92 per pound.

For the week ending June 20, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.73 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.72 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $1.88 per pound.
