Value of WI Commodities Up From Dry Weather Conditions

Prices for corn and other hay were expected to increase in Wisconsin from May to June, while prices for oats were down. Soybeans and alfalfa hay have been steady so far this summer.

According to new figures from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, corn sold for an average price of $6.20 per bushel in mid-June. This was up three cents from May's price, but 20 cents lower than year-ago levels. Nationally, corn prices averaged $6.25 per bushel in mid-June.

The average price for soybeans in Wisconsin was $13.70 per bushel, unchanged from the May price, but $1.30 more than the price in June 2011. Across the U.S., soybeans also sold for an average price of $13.70 per bushel.

Wisconsin oats averaged $3.65 per bushel in mid-June, down 14 cents from May, but up 32 cents from June of last year. Nationally, oat prices averaged $3.62 per bushel.

Alfalfa hay sold for an average price of $135.00 per ton in Wisconsin last month. That's unchanged from May, but $35.00 above June 2011. The average price for other hay types was $95.00 per ton, $5.00 above the previous month and $20.00 higher than in June of last year.
