Long-Time Clark Co. Cheesemaker, Bill Schwantes Sr., Dies

Funeral services are being held Wednesday for William Schwantes of Marshfield, 82, a former cheesemaker who owned Lynn Dairy and Lynn Proteins near Granton for many years.
Schwantes became president of Lynn Dairy in 1956 upon the death of his father, who had just purchased the operation seven years earlier. He also attended courses at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and joined the National Guard for a time.
Prior to his retirement in 1988, he served as an officer of Central Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association and received numerous awards during his career, including the title of World Championship Cheesemaker.
Bill Schwantes died July 5 at his home after a long illness.
