Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/13/2018

Winter wheat production in Wisconsin is forecast at 15.0 million bushels, 29 percent above last year's total harvest. That's according to the latest USDA Crop Production report. Based on conditions as of July 1, the crop's yield is projected to be around 68 bushels per acre, the same as last year. State growers intend to harvest 220,000 acres of winter wheat for grain, also 29 percent more than 2017.

Oat production is projected to be around 7.70 million bushels, up 54 percent from the previous year. The expected yield is 77 bushels per acre, up 18 bushels from the past growing season. If realized this will mark Wisconsin's highest oat yield, five bushels per acre above the previous record set in 2015. The area expected to be harvested for grain totals 100,000 acres, up 18 percent from 2017.

The next crop production forecasts will be released on August 10.
