Top Meat Products to be Auctioned Off at State Fair

With a 'Best of Show' yet to be named, nine individuals have already earned championship honors in the 2017 Wisconsin State Fair Meat Products Contest. More than 140 entries competed for these top honors earlier this month. The contest, held in association with the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors, recognizes quality meat processing while promoting superior Wisconsin food products.

Championship ribbons were presented to Wyttenbach Meats LLC, Prairie du Sac, Grand Champion Bacon; Louie's Finer Meats Inc., Cumberland, Grand Champion Bone-In Ham; Haen Meat Packing Inc., Kaukauna, Grand Champion Flavored Summer Sausage; Louie's Finer Meats Inc., Cumberland, Grand Champion Dried or Smoked Beef; Lake Geneva Country Meats, Lake Geneva, Grand Champion Traditional Snack Sausages; Louie's Finer Meats Inc., Cumberland, Grand Champion Specialty Cooked Bratwurst; Cal Hermann, Eden, Grand Champion Ground and Formed Jerky; Wyttenbach Meats LLC, Prairie du Sac, Grand Champion Cured Specialty Meat Product; and Geiss Meat Service, Merrill, Grand Champion Kielbasa or Polish Sausage.

The contest's top 20 items will be auctioned to the highest bidder August 8 at the Governor's Blue Ribbon Meat Products Auction. The special event is hosted by the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation and proceeds benefit Wisconsin 4-H youth. Buyer registration and dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. with the auction bidding beginning at 7:00 p.m.
