Farm Technology Days Kicks-Off in Outagamie County
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/17/2012

Thousands of agricultural producers, industry officials and others will be making their way to Outagamie County today for the kick-off of the 59th Wisconsin Farm Technology Days near New London. The event is being held at Sugar Creek Farms and Heideman Farms, which are neighboring dairy operations which have been in their respective families for generations. The festivities kick-off at 9:00 a.m. with opening ceremonies in the Family Living Tent.

Visitors to the show this week can take part in field demonstrations, educational workshops and have a chance to talk to exhibitors ranging from machinery manufacturers to seed companies. State and local FFA students will be in town competing in the state's annual tractor safety contest and land judging competitions. And camping will once again be allowed near the grounds this year.

Tuesday's speakers at the Family Living Tent include Alice in Dairyland Rochelle Ripp, Rural Health Expert Anne Marie Mataczynski, Author Roger Williams, Prevention Wellness Expert Dr. Erin Kimball, and JoEllen Wollangk with the Better Business Bureau. And former Packers Leroy Butler will be on hand to sign autographs and visit with fans.

Field demonstrations begin at 10:00 a.m. with mowing/conditioning and hay merging. Chopping, merging, raking and baling applications will also be held during the afternoon hours.

Meanwhile, organizers say the hot and dry weather conditions should not scare visitors away.

"We will have a cooling shelter on the grounds for people overcome by the heat, as well as 10,000 gallons of free water and more than 120 tents on the grounds for shelter from the sun," said Publicity Committee Chairperson Mary Schmidt. "There will be misting stations on the grounds, but please be sure to dress accordingly."

Weather reports say visitors at the show can expect mostly clear skies and a high temperature of 77 degrees today.

The show runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with daily admission costing $5.00 for ages 12 years of age and older. Children are free.

This is the second time Outagamie County is hosting Farm Technology Days.
