DATCP to Organize the 'Veggie 500' During State Fair
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/25/2016

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture will again host fun and educational activities for the whole family at the Wisconsin State Fair this summer. Referred to as the 'Veggie 500,' young fairgoers can participate in races around the Farm & Family Building where they can cheer on their favorite vegetable car and receive a prize ribbon for participating.

The Wisconsin state FFA officers lead six races each hour. They are designed to show children and their parents about the foods you buy in the grocery store, and how they go from the farm fork to your dinner fork.

Fairgoers can select their favorite veggie car from the line-up to race down the 16-foot track. All participants will receive a special bookmark. The games feature different topics that DATCP connects with every day from Wisconsin agriculture to food safety to consumer protection.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin's Alice in Dairyland Ann O'Leary will also welcome visitors daily to the Farm & Family Building at select times.

The Wisconsin State Fair goes from August 4-14 near Milwaukee.
