UW-Platteville to Hold Celebration for New Dairy Science Program
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 01/23/2017

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is inviting the public to an open house next month in celebration of its new Dairy Science Program. The gathering will take place February 23 from 2-4 p.m. at the school's Pioneer Farm on College Farm Road.

This is the first year a dairy science major is being offered at the Platteville campus, even though the school has been offering dairy curriculum for over 30 years. The program offers a number of hands-on learning experiences for students, such as the new 'Adopt-a-Heifer' program where students will be assigned an animal to follow throughout the course of their schooling.

The major will also allow the school to more effectively develop and train students for careers in the dairy industry, a division of agriculture in which continued growth and need for new professionals is expected. And it will boost support of the Dairy Judging Team, Dairy Challenge Team and the Pioneer Dairy Club.

Organizers of the open house say appetizers and refreshments will be served throughout the day.

To RSVP for the event, call the UW-Platteville's School of Agriculture at 608-342-1181.
