UW-RF's Farm Safety Center to Offer State-Wide Short Courses
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 07/27/2012

The Center for Dairy Farm Safety, which is based at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, is offering Dairy Farm Safety Short Course programs to local dairy producers in August and September at a variety of extension offices throughout the state.

The ten-hour sessions will cover topics like the best practice protocols for the dairy farm, hazard identification and risk assessment, chemical inventories and labeling, employee training requirements, and OSHA agriculture standards.

The CDFS was established through a Susan Harwood OSHA grant and the safety training materials were developed through collaboration by UW-River Falls and UW-Extension.

In addition to complete course materials, participants will receive templates and tools that can be applied to their dairy farm to assist in building best practices for an effective health and safety program.

The short course will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. over a two-day period. All course materials and lunch are provided for a $15 registration fee.

The classes are being offered at the following locations:

** August 7 & 14: Marathon County Extension Office

** August 16 & 23: UW-River Falls Dairy Learning Center

** August 29 & September 5: Fond du Lac County Extension Office

** September 6 & 13: Shawano County Extension Office

** September 13 & 12: Foremost Farms Headquarters, Baraboo
