PDPW to Hold Hispanic Dairy Employee Training Programs
Wisconsin Ag Connection - 08/10/2012

Dairy farmers who hire Hispanic labor on their operations may want to consider sending some of their employees to the various training workshops being offered this summer by the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin.

The group is holding a Dairy Cow Obstetrics and Hispanic Farm Safety Training program on August 15 at Central Sands Dairy near Nekoosa, with a second identical session slated for August 16 at Rosendale Dairy in Pickett. Dr. Oscar Duarte, DVM, will focus on both the cow and the calf, presenting a first-rate 'show-and-tell,' hands-on learning experience. And Francisco Guerrero Silva with the National Farm Medicine Center will present important safety information that will protect your workers from injury and help enforce OSHA standards on your dairy.

On August 22 & 23, courses will be taught on Milker Training and Hispanic Farm Safety. Those events will feature Silva, as well as Dr. Oscar Duarte, DVM, who will provide classroom and hands-on parlor training including the how and why of all milking procedures. Those forums will be held at Blue Star Dairy, Arlington; and Fetzer Farms Inc., Elmwood.

All of the programs are taught in Spanish. For more information on any of the various events being held for Hispanic workers, call 800-947-7379 or go to: www.pdpw.org.
