Paul Named National FFA Star in Agribusiness Finalist

The National FFA Organization announced the names of this year's National Star Finalists, which includes another student from the Badger State. Jacob Paul of the Randolph Cambria-Friesland FFA will compete for the title of Star in Agribusiness during the group's annual convention in Indianapolis this October. Paul won the same award on the state level in 2009, and was a national finalist for the Turf Grass Management proficiency award in 2009 and in Fiber and/or Oil Crop Production in 2010. He is also a former recipient of the Wisconsin FFA's Agri-Entrepreneurship Award.

Jacob owns T&J Lawn Care, an enterprise originally established as a partnerships between his brother and dad. He is also involved in his family's cash grain operation.

Meanwhile, the National FFA also announced that 14 Wisconsin students will compete as Proficiency Award finalists at the convention. They include Nathaniel Nolden, Lodi, Agricultural Education; Shane Adams, Stevens Point, Agricultural Mechanics Design & Fabrication; James Woychick, Independence, Agricultural Mechanics Energy Systems; Thomas Larson, Viroqua, Agricultural Mechanics Repair and Maintenance-Entreprenuership; Thomas Allen, Reedsburg, Dairy Production - Entrepreneurship; Brian Hoffman, Amherst, Dairy Production - Placement; Ashley Orr, Waupaca, Diversified Livestock Production; Josey Pukrop, Stevens Point, Equine Science - Entrepreneurship; Ben Fischer, Randolph Cambria-Friesland, Forest Management; Mitchell Linehan, Tomah, Fruit Production; Nathan Leystra, Randolph Cambria-Friesland, Grain Production - Placement; Shanna Mercier, Badger, Nursery Operations; Logan Wiesman, Luxemburg-Casco, Outdoor Recreation; and Joshua Bruckert, Sauk Prairie, Wildlife Production & Management.

Twenty-three other students had gold placings for their Proficiency award applications, with seven others earning silver rankings.

And many chapters will be honored during the convention. The Loyal FFA has been named a finalist for the National Chapter Award Model of Innovation, with Stanley Boyd also a finalist in the area of Community. And 25 programs will be honored as National Chapter Award Program Stars. They are Adams-Friendship, Amery, Badger, Black Hawk, Big Food, Cochrane Fountain City, De Pere, Freedom, Hustisford, Lodi, Loyal, Manawa, Monticello, Neillsville, Prairie Farm, Sauk Prairie, Spencer, Stanley Boyd, Stevens Point, Thorp, Tomah, Waupaca, Waupun, Weyauwega-Fremont, and Wisconsin Heights.
