Former State FFA Leader Virgil Martinson Passes

Funeral services for long-time agriculture teacher and former State FFA Advisor Virgil Martinson will be held this week in Stoughton. Mr. Martinson died peacefully on August 22 at Azura Memory Care in Stoughton, where he was admitted in April. He was 94 years old.

Virgil began attending college at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville in 1941 and transferred to UW-River Falls the following year. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corps in March 1943 and served as a bombsight and automatic pilot mechanic until his discharge in February 1946. He graduated from River Falls with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education in 1948.

After two years of teaching agriculture in Auburndale, Virgil moved to Marshfield where he taught Vo-Ag and advised the FFA for the next 22 years. He then spent the rest of his career working for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction as an agriculture education consultant and State FFA Advisor. He is also a former president of the Wisconsin FFA Alumni Association.

Funeral services for Virgil Martinson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, at First Lutheran Church in Stoughton. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton.
