'FFA Stars' to be Honored at State Convention

Some of the top FFA members in Wisconsin will be honored this summer in Madison during the organization's state convention. The Department of Public Instruction and the Wisconsin FFA Center have announced its candidates for the 'Stars Over Wisconsin' awards--which include finalists for the Star Farmer Award, Star in Ag Placement, Star in Agribusiness and Star in Agriscience.

In the running for Star Farmer are Sydni Mell, DeForest; Randy Winch, Fennimore; Rainna Simone, Marshfield; Mitchell Grossen, Monroe; Kaelyn Sumner, Pulaski; Kobe Smit, Randolph Cambria-Friesland; Joseline Stringfield, Randolph Cambria-Friesland; Sophie Larson, Reedsburg; Libby Hasheider, Sauk Prairie; and Madison Russell, Shullsburg.

Students nominated for Star in Ag Placement include Carter Schmitt, Cochrane-Fountain City; Alexandra Nowak, Denmark; Isabella Atkinson, East Troy; Lauren Weigel, Marshfield; Brock Ashley, Portage; Aidan Bobholz, Randolph Cambria-Friesland; Brooke Kiefer, Slinger; Hannah Hockerman, Westfield; Ashley Johnson, Weyauwega-Fremont; and Kendra Goplin, Whitehall.

Finalists for the Star in Agribusiness competition will be Kaelyn Sumner, Pulaski; and Madison Russell, Shullsburg.

And the top award nominees for Star in Agriscience are Megan Culpitt, Cashton; Caleb Gotham, New Auburn; and Madison Russell, Shullsburg

Each of the candidates will receive a plaque, with the top winners of each award also earning cash prizes. The finalists are all 2021 recipients of the State FFA Degree and were selected according to the amount of money earned in their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.

More than 300 student will earn their state degrees this year. The Wisconsin FFA Convention will be held at the Alliant Energy Center in July.
